VPN via router

If you want to use VPN via your router to enable devices that have no VPN connectability (or to save time from setting them up), then you probably can.

First,you have to check with DD-WRT.com if your router is supported with a DD-WRT firmware, which ensures your router can connect directly to a VPN server. If so, then upgrade your firmware to the latest DD-WRT firmware for your router from DD-WRT.com. Usually instructions to connect via DD-WRT are provided by your VPN provider.

Second, for OpenVPN protocol: In order to work, script (provided by your VPN provider) may require BIG, MEGA, or VPN version of the DD-WRT firmware.

For PPTP or L2TP protocol: after you are done inputting values (provided by your VPN provider) in Setup > Basic Setup : Apply Settings -> check with http://ipaddress.com/ -> if not working then try other IPs for a while -> if still not working then restart router by Administration -> Management -> Reboot Router.

Third, whenever you connect to VPN via the router, the router disables passthrough for the protocol used in order to work via the router. So after you are done, you probably won't be able to connect to PPTP via PC; to fix that: Security -> VPN Passthrough -> select Enable for PPTP -> Apply Settings.

Admin is aweful:
- gives wrong directions, does not know nearby landmarks
- expected me to go all the way to the club for just 15 minutes of unguided riding
- had to wait for the horse even though already came late and gave time to prepare it while I changed
- got almost no instruction from "Mustafa" even though I arrived late
- denied I already booked a second class, and got no ticket for it
- there are no signs to the place and can easily be confused for another Al Ahli Club (though nobody warned about that)
- washroom is dirty (flush esp. does not work)
- no changing room
- no greenery




On a more positive note, some of the instructors are great, especially the female ones ;]

Horse riding is good for:
- internal fitness related to coordination (since you have to synchronize with the horse's bounce, not pull the rein as you lift up)
- balance (especially when the horse goes fast since you end up being lifted up and sometimes swayed to the side)
- small muscles you never knew existed (like inside glutes, back, abs, legs, especially when you have to raise yourself off the saddle).
- communication skills (especially non-verbal) and leadership / resilience (you actually have to hit fairly hard to indicate desire to move).

Why Die

WiDi (pronounced Why Die) is a wireless technology used to connect PCs to TVs, with the conditions that both support it. If the TV does not support it then a WiDi adapter (by e.g. Net Gear) can be connected to the TV via HDMI.

You can only however control the TV using the PC. I am guessing it stands for Wireless Display.

Here's me talking to Emirates Hospital receptionist, Jan. 4th 2012.

- me: "I am coming by public transport, can you please tell me the best way to do so?"
- receptionist: "Sorry sir I did not understand."
- me: "How can I get to use by public transport?"
- receptionist: "You can take a taxi."
- me: "No, public transport, like bus or metro. What is the closest metro station?"
- receptionist: "There are no metro stations close to Jumeira."
- me: "No I mean which one is the closest?"
- receptionist: "There are no metro stations close to Jumeira."
- me: "Which metro station is the closest?"
- receptionist: "Sir if you keep asking me the same question I will keep giving you the same answer. There are no metro stations close to us."
- me: "Which metro station is thc closest?"
- receptionst: "There are no metro stations close to us."
- me: "Which metro station is thc closest?"
- receptionist: "I think Dubai Mall." 

 
And the answer was wrong, of course. I called to confirm with Road & Transports Authority and they told me that I was heading the wrong way and should go back to Ibn Batuta Mall lOl!

I asked them to check and they finally told me to go to Business Bay metro station, which actually (anf finally) is the closest one.

Apple Macs are not foolproof

600,000 Macs were affected by a trojan virus. It was due to Java, but it is the same story for Windows too: an unpatched OS version that runs vulnerable versions of a program. The more popular any platfrom becomes, the more it will be attacked.

Like Windows, Macs need regular updates for the OS and its programs, antivirus, and other security precautions like a Limited account, etc.

The main reasons Macs are more stable are
1) due to all their restrictions and limitations (on drivers, programs, transfer e.g. in iPads you cannot see the files in a hard-drive other than through specific programs)
2) because it is uses a less popular platform.

I recommend a Linux laptop instead, as Linux operating software has little or no viruses, and are constantly being updated. They are looking more and more like Windows, especially Windows-fx and Zorin (which I use) OS.

AND

similar looking number and add the dot (e.g. 3' looks like gha as in 3'asseel, 7' looks like kha as in 7'aroof, 9' looks like tha as in 9'ameer)

OR

generate the Arabic character that just needs the dot by using the same-sound English character and add a ' (e.g. for tha type d', for sha type s')

OR

look for how on the virtual keyboard.

OR

look for the dynamic guide at the bottom as you type.

AND

You can even use it to add pronounciation specifications (like fat-ha or kasra etc.) using the buttons on the bottom left.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCTS ALERT: NCH

The only video editor that I found that can even rotate videos was NCH's PhotoStage Slideshow Producer, and it was free for converting certain formats.

NCH's video converter (Prism) and audio converter (Switch) are 500KB files that need no installation, and work just fine.

NCH had an October 50% off promotion, and if you buy one software then the other is even cheaper, sow I got 3 software for $50 when usually just one software is around that much, and NCH software actually worX 8D

Yiuchoiyiukay Wing Chun school of Foshan (Guangdong province) have been extremely friendly and generous providing transport and help in all the following:

- picking me up at the bus terminal
- finding a nearby hotel within my budget
- inviting me for a meal of my choice of cuisine at least once a day
- serving me the food on the table whenever I run out (especially tea, never seems to run out!)
- get the ticket to Bejing
- recharge my SIM
- get money from the right ATM
- transport to the camp and back
- protect my valuables by lock at the camp and advice
- free training uniform
- and with very nice vibes and smiles :D

Yiuchoiyiukay's Wing Chun school's name is derived from Yiu Choi and Yiu Kay being the grandfather and father (respectively) of the current 3 Sifus of the school.

Alsow, his punching technique is less preferred than the one they use which they emphasize with "joon" meaning turn (the fist before the end-point of the strike, unlike Yip Man's straight punch from the center).

You can get Wing Chun training at Yiuchoiyiukay Wing Chun school of Foshan for just AED1,000 [$270] for a week (4 hours a day, 7 days a week, unlike most other schools that take at least a day off).

That's AED35 [$9.5] an hour, including transportation, some food, and trained by 2 Sifus (direct descendants of a creator of an entire strain of Wing Chun) and their disciples!

At another branch in the same city, it's for AED1,500 [$205] for a week!

Yiu Kai learned wing chun from his father as well as Chan Wah Shun disciple Ng Chun So.

Combining both Yip-Man and Yoo-Choy family styles as well as teaching "Monkey King" (Sun Wu-Kong) and "General Kwan" (Guan Yu) Chinese Opera techniques in the footsteps of GrandMaster Wong Wah-Bo, including "Lian Pu" opera face-painting.
